2022 ASU Data Conference
Building a strong data foundation.
Data are the building blocks of the world around us. Every day, we leverage information about people, environments and products to create an even better foundation.
Like LEGO bricks, data can be remixed and reconfigured to illuminate different perspectives and outcomes. At the ASU’s Data Conference 2022, data professionals and enthusiasts from across the university will convene to keep building together in innovative ways. Join us for two half days – November 1 and 2 – at the Memorial Union in Tempe for the ultimate knowledge-sharing and upskilling experiences. Hands-on master-building workshops provide inspiration, and back by popular demand, the SLICED! data competition (our geeked-out version of Chopped!) will find participants creatively solving challenges with data. Remember: If you build it, the data will come!

Quick Construction - An easy 30-minute assembly of information surrounding data tools and resources.
Data Foundations - Building data skills from the ground up with deep dive sessions into tools and processes. (60-minute session)
Skill Architecture Workshop- Hands-on in-depth sessions that combine your talents to create a structure of far-reaching expertise. (120-minute session)
Data Citizen
The Data Citizen is a capable user of data as a product. The Citizen’s focus is on analyzing the output of various datasets and reports rather than creating data content. Often tasked with answering questions or substantiating facts or assumptions by colleagues or leadership, the Data Citizen does not write code or use a BI Desktop, preferring to consume data in flat files, or pre-built reports that can be filtered and downloaded. Using data may be only a small part of this citizen’s job.
Data Apprentice
The Data Apprentice is a consumer of existing reports to perform analysis and derive insights. They may modify existing reports or perform basic ad hoc queries based on pre-built logic. The Data Apprentice may use a BI Desktop for some functions, like using a visual query tool, or may simply leverage existing assets. While skilled, data wrangling is usually not the apprentice’s primary job.
Data Knight
The Data Knight is a fearless creator of content across multiple platforms and methodologies. Adept at writing queries, creating tables, and scheduling jobs to refresh them, the Data Knight shows no fear of data monsters. The Knight will readily create reporting and visualizations to serve their department or the broader data community.
Data Wizard
The Data Wizard is an academic at the core. While this data magician may have a great understanding of many different tools, is most renowned for skill in data science, statistics, and modeling. Experienced with and capable of using multiple platforms and software, the Data Wizard typically uses them to derive inferences and analyses rather than producing data products or apps.

The 2022 Data Conference has been crafted to be an in-person experience. However, the conference will offer a viewing option for those who cannot attend in-person.

Join us for a small continental breakfast with assorted muffins (GF available) and breakfast breads (Vegan available) with coffee, hot tea and water.
The Data Conference will break for lunch at noon. The Memorial Union offers meals from a variety of restaurants that we encourage you to explore prior to reconvening for the final group of sessions!
Come back on November 2, 2022 for a full lunch during Sliced!

Parking Details
The ASU Memorial Union is located at 301 E Orange St (noted by the star) in Tempe on campus.
We highly encourage using alternative transportation such as carpool, golf cart or stretching your legs on a quick walk. If you will be parking, the closest lot to the Memorial Union is Apache Garage (noted at the bottom of the map). Unfortunately, we will not be able to validate parking this year.
