Keynote

Around the world, cities have been experimenting with new technologies and data to solve many challenges associated with mobility, congestion management, citizen well-being and health, and service accessibility to vulnerable segments of the population and at-risk neighborhoods. These cities have implemented technology solutions not only to reduce the cost of providing access to quality services but also to enhance revenue and spur economic development. Over time, these cities have come to understand it is not a single project that makes them smart, rather it is the process of using technology and leveraging data, to continually improve government efficiency, enhance citizen well-being and solve complex problems.

Join us to hear how the Greater Phoenix Smart Region Consortium has leveraged a public-private partnership and is “Putting Data to Work” to develop smart communities of the future. Learn about the collaboration across multiple cities to develop the tools, skills, and analytical capabilities required for the region to evolve in the new digital age.

The Consortium’s objective is to empower Greater Phoenix communities to build the nation’s largest and most connected Smart Region, bolstering local economies with smart development and policies rooted in connectivity, mobility, equity, and sustainability. Reaching beyond municipal jurisdiction limits, it enables communities to implement data-driven solutions that are interconnected, seamless, affordable and interoperable.

Meta Data Management

The Department of Economic Security desired a solution to serve as a customer master or “Golden Record” so they could understand the overlap of services, the number of Arizona citizens that receive a service from DES and the number of Arizona citizens receiving multiple services from DES cross divisionally as well as across multiple programs. Come and hear about how Intersys helped to solve these important business problems!

Data Warehouse Modernization Practices

Data warehouses are the custodians of the enterprises most important business data, but traditional data warehouses are unable to scale with exponential data growth and are often becoming a roadblock for enterprises business analytics initiatives. Learn how Google’s serverless, highly scalable, enterprise data warehouse is designed to make data analysts productive at an unmatched price performance.

Alexa Goes to College

In the Fall of 2017, 1,500 students in a new residence hall at Arizona State University(ASU) started using Amazon Echo Dots.  These students could ask Alexa over 500 ASU specific questions like “how late is the library open?” or “where can I find free food?”  As ASU builds out the smart campus of the future, voice enabling it is inevitable.  This session takes a look at ASU’s voice journey as it puts these smart devices in meeting rooms and public spaces; and as it continues to develop personalized voice applications for students and employees.   Meanwhile, the presenter will discuss the future of multi-modal delivery of information (chat/voice/mobile/web) and how voice could be used to get access to a variety of data sources, no SQL required.

Provider Address Validation Project

The Office of Business Intelligence (OBI) at AHCCCS, a state agency, received a customer request to create an address validation process to verify a provider’s addresses that qualified for a targeted incentive. The amount of manual work and the importance of having accurate address information sent to our business partners was justification to prioritize the request so the data governance team collected the requirements with a workgroup and met with the data warehouse manager to review technical options for a solution to satisfy the requirements. Come learn more about a project that was started by the data governance team, supported by the data warehouse manager, and assisted by the vendor, Informatica. The project team provided a solution with the tool ‘Address Doctor’ that was able to identify and correct 2257 address records from the agency’s source system out of 10211 to the USPS standard along with saving cost for a full time employee to perform the validation multiple times a year at $1,730.40 each time the process was done, based on the average salary of a state employee of $45,000 yearly by 80 hours’ worth of work. These results were well worth the project and product for the agency.
