ASU shares its cloud acceleration on global stage

By 2025, 80% of enterprises are expected to operate entirely on cloud-based infrastructures, and Arizona State University (ASU) is helping to pave the way for this transformation as the nation’s most innovative university. Serving over 173,000 students — in-person, synchronous and online — along with 20,000 faculty and staff, ASU is at the forefront of today’s cloud acceleration.

On July 25, leading tech innovators from around the globe gathered in Sydney, Australia for the Cloud and IT Infrastructure Summit NSW 2023, to discuss the latest advancements and share knowledge about cloud innovation. This year, ASU’s Glenn Williamson, director of services in platforms and application engineering at Enterprise Technology, joined global tech leaders on the stage.

“I’m thrilled to be a thought leader representing ASU at the Cloud and IT Summit to showcase all the cutting-edge technology and solutions being developed within the industry,” Williamson said. “Being able to share my journey on a world stage and our spirit of innovation is what this is all about.”

Williamson has been immersed in cloud transformation technology for about eight years. As a leader at ASU, Williamson’s key focus is on effectively deploying customer-centric applications and infrastructure in a cloud environment, shifting from traditional server instances to cloud-based systems and aligning with the progressing demands of the industry.

Before his role at ASU, Williamson served as the Director of Engineering at Twitter, where he led teams in using complex data analysis to adapt to evolving platform projects. Looking toward the future, he says there’s a lot of opportunity to grow in the cloud while maintaining high-level security — particularly cybersecurity — to safeguard applications, virtual machines and cloud initiatives at ASU and beyond.

“ASU is a place where the newest technology comes to life,” Williamson said. “We stand in the perfect spot to make the most of cloud technology, thanks to the brilliant minds focused on innovation. It’s about taking charge of our technology future, not just watching it happen — but creating it.”
