AI Scholars Hackathon Produces Two Winning Alexa Skill Development Teams
Earlier this month, AI Scholar freshmen participated in the AI Scholars hackathon, where they worked over the course of multiple days to develop new skills for Amazon Alexa. About 75 of the 700-student cohort that has received Amazon Echo Dots and other Amazon-supported resources competed in the hackathon for $5,000 scholarships and a trip to Amazon’s headquarters in Seattle.
The Control-Alt-Elite team won with their Honey Caregiver skill, which can reassure children, especially those with Down syndrome or autism, and reinforce important routines. The other winning team (Cereously Good Hackers) received the same prizes, and developed Recycle Buddy, a skill that lets users know what kind of materials are recyclable in their area.
