ASU's Project Management Network Looks to Grow Its Ranks

If you’re looking for an opportunity to develop your project management skills, connect with other professionals, and strengthen interdisciplinary relationships across campus, consider joining the ASU Project Management Network (PM Network). This highly involved network is a community of over 430 faculty and staff, representing over 60 colleges and departments, dedicated to further developing project management processes and capabilities at ASU.

The PM Network provides opportunities through monthly networking socials, quarterly brown bag lunches, workshops through Leadership Workforce and Development (HR – LWD), and a flagship no-to-low-cost Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) Course which meets the requirements to help ASU PM Network members prepare for the globally recognized Project Management Professional (PMP) certification exam.

Regarding this PMBOK Course, Jennifer Rode of Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College, states “Through the comprehensive support of the ASU PM Network, I was able to pass the exam only a month after the course was finished.” Furthermore, weeks after earning her PMP Certificate, Rode was elected to the PM Network Board as its 2017-2018 Training Coordinator. She continues to pay it forward by leading volunteers who are facilitating the third iteration of PMBOK Course this Spring.

To reach more members of the ASU community, the PM Network has also partnered with organizations such as the ASU Lodestar Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Innovation and Commission on the Status of Women to deliver customized presentations such as Project Management for the Non-Project Manager, Create a Work Breakdown Structure, and From Project Manager to Strategic Leader.

Most recently, the PM Network was featured as a resource to over 260 attendees of the February 2018 Organizational Excellence Community of Practice (OECoP) meeting. “The ASU PM Network has helped educate faculty and staff about project management, its methods and the value that it delivers to organizations,” says Clayton Taylor, Director of the Organizational Performance Office.

Events hosted by the PM Network are eligible for professional development units (PDUs) thanks to its status with the Project Management Institute (PMI) as a Registered Education Provider (REP). Warick Pond, Associate Vice President of the University Technology Office’s Planning and Program Management Office notes, “As a PMI REP, we’re able to partner with organizations like the PM Network and issue PDUs for peer-generated and ASU project management-specific content.”
