Changes to how email is delivered at ASU
As part of the evolving governance landscape standard, major email service providers such as Google, Yahoo and Apple are implementing changes to enhance email security. Beginning April 1, many of the external email providers listed above will begin actively enforcing these standards by blocking emails that do not conform to the new standards.
This change will impact the ability of emails sent to Arizona State University community members to reach outside email accounts when external redirecting is configured, potentially causing delivery failures.
Do you forward your emails to a personal or outside mailbox?
If you do not remove forwarding settings on your ASU email address, emails sent to you may not be delivered successfully. You must ensure your email settings in My ASU are set to deliver to either "MS Exchange for ASU" or "Gmail for ASU."
To check or adjust your forwarding settings, please complete the following steps:
- Sign in to your My ASU account.
- Select the "Profile" tab in the top navigation.
- Scroll down to "Contact Details" and click on the dropdown menu option labeled "Email."
- Click on "Manage your ASU email address."
- Select MS Exchange for ASU" or "Gmail for ASU" to request the change to email delivery
- Once you receive the verification email within the email service you have chosen, click on the link provided in the email to verify your choice and complete the change.
- You can visit your ASU Gmail or MS Exchange inboxes at any time by selecting the “Gmail” or “Outlook” buttons in the top navigation of your My ASU.
You may also follow the step-by-step guide outlined in our Knowledge Base article.
As an additional mitigation measure, ASU will restrict the ability to forward emails beginning April 1, 2024.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we adjust to account for these changes. Please contact the ASU Experience Center if you have any questions or concerns.
