Latest UTO ‘By the Numbers’ Quarterly Report Reveals the Silver Linings of Remote Modality
Along with the rest of the world, the University Technology Office at ASU had to move fast to enable remote learning, teaching and working at scale. UTO’s quarterly achievements, always measured as examples not only of what has been accomplished in the past but also as looks forward to what is still possible, were suddenly defined in a big way by a remote modality. Silver lining stories of Remote Resilience from UTO and the university at-large emerged and reflected the innovation and humanity of the ASU community.
For example, over 5,000 courses and 55,000 campus immersion students were brought online via Zoom, ASU’s video conferencing tool. And Slack, the University’s real-time communication solution, saw nearly 13,000 active daily users sending about 203,500 messages every day.
The Experience Center took 118,000 calls to help guide the ASU community through an immediate transition, while the number of ASU Mobile App users went up by five percent from the previous quarter.
Carolee Deuel, Director of Governance, Policy and Compliance and the major organizer of our By the Numbers efforts, spoke to the greater impact of these measurements. “I have always been a believer that communication through statistics is the best way to focus an organization, show transparency, and deliver results,” Deuel said. “UTO does such incredible work supporting ASU's mission, and we needed to tell that story through numbers. When we started this process, the team struggled with what to measure. Today the results paint the picture of the responsive, caring, over-achieving organization that I am proud to say is my UTO family.”
