Budget and Finance: Revenue

Enterprise Technology has several different sources of revenue to fund the operations of the organization.

Transaction questions can be answered by Caroleen Phillips, Andrew Burkeor Joshua Consier in the Budget and Finance team.

  1. GOA/GOT - General Operating Appropriation/General Operating Tuition accounts are accounts funded by legislative appropriation.

  2. Non-Local Tuition - Non-appropriated local tuition funds (NLT) are necessary to fulfill legislative reporting requirements to establish separate appropriated and non-appropriated tuition funds.  Accounts receive their funding from the central budget office. These accounts should be utilized prior to student fees and local unrestricted accounts.

The Undergraduate College Fee is one of four fee categories based on a student's program of study.  ASU conducted a comprehensive review of all instructional costs for every program. Programs of study with similar costs were grouped together, and those fees were averaged to determine an amount for each category.

Mandatory Student Fee accounts are funded by student-initiated fees. These are deposited directly by Student Business Services after charges post to student accounts (typically happens in batches sporadically throughout the year).

  1. The Graduate Student Support Fee helps fund resources and services that support graduate students, including technology resources and services, instructional and laboratory expenses in departments and schools, and graduate student services.

These chargebacks include Licenses, Hosting, Deskside and Server Support, Web Development, and Network Support.

  1. Enterprise Technology charges ASU departments and 3rd parties for specialized software licenses, storage, deskside and server support services, network data and voice services, and website development services.
  1. University Technology Fee - Assessed to online students. Funds technology initiatives including implementation of ASU's wireless network, delivering University-licensed software to all students, increasing the number of technology-enabled classrooms, reducing dependence on computing labs, and expanding and improving online self-service environments.

  2. Administrative Services Charge - The administrative services charge allows local accounts to share in the cost of university administrative services that benefit local accounts. These services include accounting, information technology, budgeting, campus security, facilities planning, fiscal transactions processing, human resources, legal, payroll, and purchasing services. The administrative services charge can fluctuate from year to year. The administrative services charge at the date of this procedural update is 8.50 percent of expenditures.  The administrative service charge is assessed for all expenditures made on an eligible account. There are exceptions for certain spending categories.
  1. Grants from agencies that support specific research projects.
  1. Gifts from individual donors or agencies that support specific ASU projects
