Summer 2022 offers big innovation during short semester

When it comes to number of days in session, the summer 2022 semester at ASU is the shortest one – taking place from May 10 to August 10 this year. Even during this abbreviated semester, UTO continued its innovation and proactive support of existing and new technologies.

Today, we dive into the work and transformation that took place over the semester with UTO’s By the Numbers and Semester in Review.

And if we look to 'By the Numbers' as a way to quantify how work gets done at UTO, the stories shared in the UTO Newsroom help us to qualify the impact of this work across ASU and beyond. 

As the Summer 2022 semester has come to a close, a few prominent story arcs emerged from the UTO Newsroom. Most notably, the ASU exhibition of supporting student success, the improvement of technology platforms, and creative developments for the learning experience were prominent from May to August through these arcs. 

Here’s a look at UTO’s Semester in Review for Summer 2022 across these three story arcs:

1. Supporting student success

UTO enhances ASU's dedication to advancing student success at scale with technological innovations, further enabling success for all learners. 

ASU adds another top ranking: This time for student athletes’ Academic Progress Rate

For the first time, ASU Athletics earned the highest overall average APR in the Pac-12 Conference. A data tool developed by UTO enabled this remarkable milestone.

ASU's move to the cloud supports transfer students in Arizona

As part of the university's digital transformation efforts to be a fully cloud-based infrastructure, migrating the AZTransfer system required the technical expertise of ASU, combined with partnership from ABOR.


2. Improving technology portals

Our teams provide the technical support for a number of ASU web and app-based portals that enhance the learning and administration of the student experience. In doing so, we are innovating the technological processes, models and relationships that connect the ASU+ community.

Sun Devil Rewards is now available on ASU Mobile App

The ASU Mobile App is a community portal that enriches the university experience. With the integration of Sun Devil Rewards, the convenience that the app provides is becoming even more impactful for the community.

From testing to troubleshooting, ASU’s Tech Studio is available to help

Recognizing the shift to a more digitally connected society, ASU is providing key assistance through the Tech Studio to ensure our community has the proper support to navigate their own digital transformation journey.


3. Integrating tech into the learning experience

Central to our work is helping faculty foster greater engagement  while students are learning by creating  using tech-enhanced teaching and learning strategies.

ASU partnership fuels three times the innovation

To leverage the possibilities of automation and enrich the conversations taking place across the university, UTO teamed up with Robots & Pencils and Slack to create web bots that improve student success.
