Team Reduces a Server's Workload by 80 Percent

UTO’s Operations, while working on a project upgrading authentication infrastructure, discovered an excessive number of authenticated logins to ASU’s data aggregation and logging platform, Splunk, from an information security partner’s tool. This created unnecessary server load for the platform, but Marty Idaszak of the Information Security Office, Derwin Skipp of Operations, and Chris Kurtz of Data Analytics/Splunk worked together to find a solution to the issue and reduce the server’s workload by 80 percent, which was implemented by the information security partner. “This is a great example of individual units inside UTO working together with our partners to continually improve ASU’s service to our students, staff, and faculty,” Kurtz said.
