Business Case_Cost Benefit Analysis - When resources such as money or time are consumed, they should be in support of a specific business need. A business case or cost-benefit analysis analyzes the spending and captures the reasoning for initiating the project or change. For example, a software upgrade might improve system performance, but the "business case" is that better performance would improve customer satisfaction, require less task processing time, or reduce system maintenance costs. A compelling cost-benefit analysis adequately captures both the quantifiable and non-quantifiable characteristics of why we should attempt the undertaking of the project.
Cost Comparison - This template of a cost breakdown shows variances between the current version and what a new solution would look like.
executive_summary.docx – An Executive Summary is intended as an aid to decision-making by leadership. It is a short document that summarizes the justification for a change. It is written in such a way that readers can rapidly become acquainted with a large body of information without having to read all of it. It usually contains a brief statement of the problem, a concise analysis of options and a summary of the recommendation.
Milestones/Deliverables – When writing a scope for a consulting agreement, a proof of concept or a pilot, it is important to include milestones or deliverables. Milestones are actions or events marking a significant change in stage. A deliverable is a tangible or intangible good/service produced as a result of a project that is intended to be delivered to a customer. See example milestones and deliverables in this document.
