From testing to troubleshooting, ASU’s Tech Studio is available to help!

As Sun Devils prepare to kick off the new semester this month, technology plays a key role in the on-campus and online experience.

Perhaps you’re excited to learn a new tool like Adobe Creative Cloud or Slack for your upcoming class, simply cannot get your internet to connect properly on campus, or are worried you accidentally clicked on a malicious link – it is likely we all may need some form of support now and in the future.

Recognizing the shift to a more digitally connected society, ASU is bringing resources that innovate how Sun Devils use technology to enhance the ASU experience, providing key assistance to ensure our community has the proper support to navigate their own digital transformation journey.

Staffed by IT experts, the ASU Tech Studio offers the following technical assistance services

  • Supporting the use of ASU’s suite of learning technology, such as Canvas, Slack, Zoom, Adobe, Yellowdig, Playposit, Voicethread, Inscribe, etc.

  • Troubleshooting connection disruptions to campus wifi networks. We will help to make sure your device is properly connected to campus wifi.

  • Offering computer hardware and software diagnostic support. Once we’ve identified whether your device is having hardware issues (in which the physical parts of your device are failing) or software errors (installed programs and operating systems), the Tech Studio will provide guidance and direction on next steps for repairs.

  • Assisting in setting up and navigating ASU’s two-step authentication system: Duo. Also known as multi-factor authentication, this security enhancement requires users to have two points of verification when logging into many of our ASU-managed services. The experience includes combining your password protection with either a push notification to your phone, entering security code, or answering a phone call for an additional layer of security.

ASU's enabling of Duo has been a critical step in protecting Sun Devils against phishing attacks. The Tech Studio assists visitors in setting up and navigating the Duo system.

  • Helping the community avoid downloading malicious software, known as malware, by exploring the suggested list of anti-malware tools shared by ASU's Information Security Office. The Tech Studio team can help ensure that any anti-malware software is properly set up to automatically retrieve the latest updates, perform regular scans, and scan files.

A key part of welcoming the Sun Devil community for the start of the upcoming semester is ensuring they have the support they need to engage with their studies, peers and the campus community – both in-person and online,” said Art Hernandez, who oversees the ASU Tech Studios as part of the Learning Experience team at the University Technology Office. “The ASU Tech Studios are designed to offer all Sun Devils a thorough and engaging technical support experience that helps ensure their success at ASU.”

Aligning with ASU’s mission of digital equity and accessibility for all, the Tech Studio’s services are entirely free for Sun Devils. “[IT support staff] Shaun and Saimah were amazing. It seemed that nothing would stop these two wizards of tech,” recalled one Tech Studio visitor. "They worked diligently for about three hours! Needless to say, we are overjoyed and filled with gratitude."

The ASU Tech Studio is a reliable fixture on every campus in Phoenix, including Tempe, Polytechnic, West and Downtown Phoenix. And for the upcoming fall 2022 semester, each location will be open from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. MST, Monday through Friday to support the Sun Devil community.
