Women in IT: Built by brilliance

March marks Women's History Month — a time to celebrate the bold and brilliant women shaping their communities, and the world at large.

Across the vast portfolio of professions housed within ASU Enterprise Technology, our team of executive leaders are shaping the ever-evolving landscape of the university and technology.

We caught up with five of our women in IT leaders to learn from their shared and unique experiences. Read their stories below.

Bonnie Wilde, Executive Director for Enterprise Technology Affairs

Behind every great organization is a steady, strategic force driving progress forward. Bonnie Wilde is that force.

As Executive Director for ASU Enterprise Technology Affairs, Wilde leads initiatives that bridge digital transformation with access and excellence; building partnerships and strengthening community engagement along the way.

With a background spanning program development, enterprise platforms and community strategy, Wilde has embraced a growth mindset from the very beginning of her career. That willingness to step into new challenges has allowed her to expand her reach and lead within a technology-driven organization.

We asked Wilde what keeps her saying yes:

“Curiosity,” Wilde said. “It’s always been my compass. I’m driven to grow, evolve, and create meaningful impact. A growth mindset has meant stepping into opportunities before I felt fully ready — trusting I could rise, learn fast, and bring others along with me.”

Over nearly 25 years at ASU, Wilde has navigated roles in business analysis and IT before arriving at Enterprise Technology. A firm believer in the power of diversity, she champions opportunities for girls and women to thrive in IT and has served as an institutional representative for Arizona Women in Higher Education.

Gigi Speaks, Senior Director for the ASU Experience Center and Enterprise Support Services

With more than 25 years of experience in customer service, leadership and technology, Gigi Speaks has built her career on relationships.

As Senior Director of the ASU Experience Center and Enterprise Support Services, she oversees nearly 200 team members and leads efforts that align university goals with the needs of students and staff. Through her leadership, digital equity and student success remain central priorities — ensuring technology enhances both access and experience.

We asked Speaks what advice she would give herself on her first day as senior director:

“If I could speak to myself on day one, I’d say three things,” Speaks said. “First, you belong, even when imposter syndrome is loud. Second, have courage. Doing right won’t always be easy. And third, build relationships. Titles don’t create trust, relationships do. Lead with your team, protect them, and be decisive when it matters most.”

Speaks is currently pursuing her PhD in Professional Practice in Global Leadership Management, adding to her 12 years of experience at ASU.

Kimberly Clark, Deputy Chief Information Officer

Kimberly Clark’s career in technology has always been intentional.

Now serving as Deputy Chief Information Officer for ASU Enterprise Technology, Clark is helping reimagine how the organization operates — improving digital experiences and using data-informed decision-making to better serve students and faculty across ASU.

Prior to joining ASU three years ago, Clark served as the Head of Strategy & Operations for Global IT, Security, and Privacy Engineering at Twitter. We asked her what it felt like when she realized she belonged in technology:

I never had a ‘realization’ because I never had a doubt,” Clark said. “From dreaming of aeronautical engineering in kindergarten to leading technology today, I’ve always known this is where I belong. My seat at the table wasn’t a discovery; it was the destination from day one.”

Outside of work, Clark has served as a long time board member, currently serving on the Creative Impact Board for the ASU Art Museum and as an advisor to the Arizona Science Center.

Shimara Mizell, Director of People Operations

Technology is powered by systems, but sustained by people. Shimara Mizell ensures both are aligned.

As Director of People Operations for ASU Enterprise Technology, Mizell connects workforce strategy with business priorities, supporting leaders while shaping culture across the division.

We asked Mizell about the best career advice she has received:

“Speak up,” Mizell said. “If you are the expert in the room for any particular topic, be confident in the knowledge, experience and skills you bring to the table as others are looking to you for that expertise. Speak up and fill that space.”

With 15 years in HR at ASU, Mizell coaches senior leaders and guides culture and workforce decisions that support Enterprise Technology’s continued growth. She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Troy University and a master’s degree in human resources management from DeVry University, along with SHRM-SCP and SPHR certifications.

Tina Miller, Executive Director for ASU Enterprise Technology Creative and Communications

Tina Miller leads Creative and Communications for ASU Enterprise Technology, guiding a team that shapes voice, strategy and storytelling. Her work reinforces Enterprise Technology’s reputation as a hub for innovation, collaboration and digital excellence.

With experience spanning Fortune 500 companies, government agencies and higher education institutions, Miller brings deep expertise in strategic and marketing communications. Today, she is focused on evolving the ASU Enterprise Technology brand into a cohesive vision that demonstrates the power of human-centered technology.

We asked Miller to identify the thread connecting every chapter of her career:

“I love learning new things and sharing insight with others,” Miller said. “AI represents the ultimate expression of this, as an opportunity to fuel creativity, spark discovery, and stay at the forefront of technological innovation. For me, it’s not a disruption. It’s an invitation.”

Miller is also the founder of AI Beacon Network and serves as a speaker and advisor to Higher Ed MarComms. She volunteers with Fresh Start Women’s Foundation as a workshop facilitator and mentor, and serves as an usher at the Phoenix Theatre Company and ASU Gammage.
