Strengthened Security: Enhanced Phishing Reporting for Exchange
Enterprise Technology is enhancing our community’s security posture with a new “Report Phishing” button for Exchange, Outlook, and OWA. As of March 1, community members can now report phishing emails directly to the Security Operations Center (SOC) with a single click—eliminating the need to forward suspicious messages manually.
What’s Changing and Why?
Currently, phishing emails must be manually forwarded to infosec@asu.edu. The “Report Phishing” button streamlines this process with the new update, ensuring faster response times and more consistent reporting. The manual forwarding option remains available, but this enhancement makes reporting more straightforward, faster, and effective.
Phishing attacks constantly evolve, and quick action is essential to prevent threats. This update aims to:
- Simplify Reporting – One click sends phishing emails directly to the SOC for review.
- Ensure Consistency – A standardized process improves security response efforts.
- Strengthen Cybersecurity – Faster reporting leads to quicker detection and mitigation.
How to use the Report Phishing button
- Identify a suspicious email.
- Click “Report Phishing” in Exchange, Outlook, or OWA.
- The email is instantly forwarded to the SOC for evaluation and response.
- By leveraging this feature, community members help protect institutional data and reduce the risk of security breaches.
Please note that the new button is only available to Exchange community members using the latest Microsoft Outlook in the new layout; it is not accessible in the classic/legacy view. Gmail support is under evaluation for rollout soon.
A Continued Commitment to Security
Enterprise Technology remains dedicated to implementing proactive security measures. By enabling easier and more efficient phishing reporting, we empower our community to play an active role in maintaining a secure digital environment.
