Ep 3: A first time Waymo rider focused on closing the digital divide


 

Angela Siefer, executive director of the National Digital Inclusion Alliance (NDIA), takes her first-ever Waymo with Lev Gonick in this week’s episode of Carpool Convos. Gonick and Seifer have been working together for over two decades to close the digital divide.

The digital divide refers to the gap between individuals, communities, and regions that have access to modern technology and those that do not.

The two hop into Waymo’s autonomous vehicle take a ride down memory lane on their first introduction into this work, outline three major inflection points for digital equity — which includes a divide ongoing now through the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) — and the critical role of digital navigators who provide human-to-human support to bring communities online.

And in May 2025, NDIA will be back in Phoenix to host their annual conference Net Inclusion in Gila River.
